Service agreement

Terms of Service

These terms govern access to SimpleSteward during its private pilot and when a paid subscription is made available.

Effective July 17, 2026

Agreement and authority

By creating or using a SimpleSteward workspace, you agree to these terms on behalf of yourself and, when applicable, the church or organization you represent. You must be authorized to create the workspace and manage its financial records and users.

The service

GoodForge provides SimpleSteward as church-focused bookkeeping and fund accounting software. Features may include giving, donors, deposits, payments, funds, budgets, reports, contribution statements, reconciliation, exports, user roles, and audit history. Pilot features may change as the service is completed and validated.

Accounts and administrators

Users sign in through supported Google identities and are responsible for protecting those accounts. Tenant administrators control invitations, roles, and authorized use. You must promptly disable access that is no longer appropriate and provide accurate organization and billing information.

Church data

The church retains ownership of data it submits to SimpleSteward. You grant GoodForge the limited right to host, process, transmit, back up, and display that data as needed to operate and support the service. You are responsible for the lawfulness, accuracy, retention, and appropriate use of church, donor, employee, vendor, and financial information.

Acceptable use

You may not use SimpleSteward to break the law, infringe rights, distribute malicious code, interfere with the service, bypass security or tenant restrictions, probe another customer’s data, share access improperly, or use the service for deceptive or fraudulent activity.

Trials, subscriptions, and cancellation

A self-service workspace may begin with a limited trial. Paid access, when enabled, is billed through the displayed subscription schedule and handled by Stripe. Charges, renewal timing, taxes, and cancellation options will be shown before checkout. Cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the paid period unless the billing portal states otherwise. After trial expiration, cancellation, or unresolved nonpayment, accounting changes may become read-only while reports, exports, and billing management remain available for a reasonable transition period.

Bookkeeping responsibility

SimpleSteward is a recordkeeping tool and does not provide legal, tax, accounting, investment, or audit advice. The church remains responsible for approvals, internal controls, bank activity, filings, contribution acknowledgments, record retention, and review by qualified professionals.

Availability, changes, and support

We work to keep the service reliable but do not promise uninterrupted or error-free availability. Maintenance, security response, provider outages, and evolving pilot requirements may affect access. Support channels and current pilot expectations are described on the Support page.

Exports and account closure

Authorized users should regularly review and export records needed for church governance. Upon account closure, GoodForge may retain limited billing, audit, security, backup, and legal records. Data return and deletion timing will follow the production retention policy and applicable law.

Confidentiality and security

Each party will use reasonable care with confidential information. GoodForge may access customer information when necessary to provide support, secure the service, comply with law, or exercise rights under these terms. Security controls reduce risk but cannot eliminate every threat.

Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided without warranties not expressly stated in a signed agreement. GoodForge is not responsible for decisions made from incorrect or incomplete records, unauthorized use caused by customer account practices, or failures outside GoodForge’s reasonable control. Any additional warranty, liability cap, indemnity, or service-level terms for paid production use should be stated in an order or written agreement.

Termination

GoodForge may suspend or terminate access for material breach, security risk, illegal activity, or nonpayment. When practical, we will provide notice and an opportunity to cure. Sections that by their nature should continue after termination, including data ownership, payment obligations, disclaimers, and dispute terms, survive.

Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Alabama, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. We may update these terms as SimpleSteward moves from private pilot to paid production. Material changes will be communicated to tenant administrators when appropriate.
